Jeffery M. Camp’s ‘Is Goat Beef?’ is a collection of the author’s favorite recipes along with his real life stories from when he was serving in the army. Not something you see side-by-side everyday, but it seems to work in this book. He wasn’t an army cook, he just shares his journeys and his enjoyment of food and drink, simply, in an upfront way that is both amusing and enlightening. The title hints that this isn’t a typically bland cookery book, but a publication offering a little bit more. This is for readers who like something different, slightly left of center and irreverent. I enjoyed this book despite not being a fan of cookery or even interested in the military. The sheer implausibility of such a book existing, along with the intriguing title drew me in and made me curious and I’m glad I took the time to read it!

A cookery book with a difference? An army veterans diary extracts? Im not sure exactly where this fits but its certainly novel. An informal look at the lighter side of Jeffery M. Camps army experiences, with recipes thrown into the mix too. Each recipe included here comes armed with information about why it was chosen as well as a bit of context, for instance the country the author was in at the time he learned it. There are photos too. Mostly of the final cooked products, but a few of his army

What an odd mix this book is, but somehow it really does work. The mix of stories from author Camps military background are a blend of profound, touching experience, and real laugh-out-loud funny. Personally I couldnt imagine the level of commitment required for military service, but I really enjoyed this (albeit light-hearted) insight into that way of life. The writing was capable and certainly well handled and well paced for a memoir-esque book like this. In fact I would be interested to readJeffery M. What an unusual, innovative book! With poetry, recipes with anecdotal prefaces and self-confessed digressions, this is pretty whimsical and thats what made me enjoy it. Make no mistake though, the main servings of this book are recipes and military stories, side by side (some somewhat inexplicably). I learned some interesting insights into army life thanks to this book. Jeffery M.Camp writes in a conversational, upbeat way, throwing in snippets of education too, including foreign customs and

Is Goat Beef? was a quirky find, for sure. If you like food and drink recipes and have an interest in the army, you couldnt ask for anything better! It may be a niche interest book but it kept me entertained nonetheless.I felt like Id almost took a tour of duty myself by the end of reading this. Camp taught me all kinds of wonderful things in addition to his recipes and backstage army stories. He includes photographs of the dishes too something I find invaluable when attempting to recreate
