I love the character Jane Whitefield and the series of novels based on her character. In general, Perry is an excellent writer, and I just finished his stand alone novel, "The old man." But, the Jane Whitefield novels are my favorites as she is a strong, intelligent female protagonist who helps others in a way others couldn't. You get a glimpse of Native American rituals in the novels, and a more in depth look at how to start over with a new name, job, and geographical location as this is whatThis was a pretty good suspense novel with a very original premise. Jane Whitefield is a Seneca Native who helps people in trouble disappear and start fresh lives with new identities. Recently I read a very good review about Dance For the Dead, the second in this series, so I figured I'd better read this one first. Even though I could pretty much see what was going to happen I still enjoyed it. Those of you who enjoy a good chase will love this one.
Four and a half stars. Jane Whitefield is Native American and she makes people disappear. Not thorough magic, but through wile and guile. She doesn't take money for her efforts but accepts gifts and doesn't hide people who are running from the law. A man is waiting for in her house, having defeated Jane's alarm system, telling her he needs to hide. The story reveals interesting history and stories of the Native Americans of the northeast while never losing any of its thriller edge. Highly

I picked up this book becase the series was recommended in the Seattle Times. The premise and protagonist are full of potential, but it is never realized in this book. 5* Wow, what a trip. I came across this book because James Thane reviewed The Old Man by Thomas Perry and mentioned the Jane Whitefield series. I tried to borrow The Old Man from my library but it wasnt available, so I took two others that were. Perry is a new author to me and I dont know how I could be unaware of him. Im very glad for this discovery because I need to get into another series and this book has astonished me.I was hooked immediately by the action and soon the main character. There
