Criticize Appertaining To Books Winnetou I: Kepala Suku Apache (Winnetou #1)
At 500+ pages, this thing is a monster for a non-native speaker. The good news is, once you get the American Western vocab down (auf Deutsch), it moves quicker.Classic adventure story that explains (and helped create)the occasional German obsession with the American West and Native Americans. But who's complaining? Without fairy tales, I doubt we would be equally obsessed with castles. German man goes out west, gets captured by Indians, makes new friends, fights bad guys, etc. The story bogs

Having been told by my dad to read some Karl May countless times, I finally gave in. I expected his books to be really tedious to read, but I was pleasantly surprised to find them so readable. I really had my fun with Winnetou I! This book was funny, suspenseful and interesting, too. It's true that sometimes it gets a little predictable, but I feel like things as Old Shatterhand's infallibleness kind of make up the spirit of this story and I am perfectly okay with that. I've never really liked

A child of its time and for its time a very special gem. The most tragic parts for me as a reader are when Karl May gets philosophical, ethical or political and his hopes are wronger than wrong: that the indigenous people and Germans had one thing in common: the love for nature and humanity itself and wouldn't do as much harm to the world as more imperialist countries (of that time). Can you be any more wrong?

In a time when as, a young man, my life seemed a mess, I felt encouraged to follow a "touring" protestant minister in an attempt to seek some stability in my life. Not long after, someone suggested to start reading books. I do not remember who gave me the book; "Winnetou meets Old Shatterhand" by Karl May. Reading it over and over again & without realizing it, the book presented me with a 'platform' to redirect my life based on the genuine love & respect between these two 'blood

This book was a reread for me, a reread thirty years in the making. There are times when I reread the books I had loved as a child, that I find them mediocre at best. To put it simply, not many books stand the test of time, and the mind had since moved on to more challenging things to entertain it. However, this is not the case with Winnetou and Karl May's writing. I fondly recall the innocent years when I devoured his books lusting after the wide world and all it has to offer. Karl May took me

The copy I have is on loan from a friend, a Bavarian dedicated to this book. I see now why this and the other works of Karl May have become classics in Germany. Granted, some of the details of the American West have been misinterpreted and misrepresented, but May was hightly inventive and at all times captivating. His hero quickly earns the name "Old Shatterhand," and proves that he is truly no Greenhorn, surpassing the brilliance of all Indian braves, even the fabled Winnetou. With every turn

i love indian. i love winnetou.
